Remembering Navoi
Every February 9, Uzbekistan celebrates the anniversary of the great poet and thinker Alisher Navoi’s birth.
A solemn event dedicated to the 579th anniversary of the great poet’s birth was held at the monument to Alisher Navoi near Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. The event gathered workers of state and public organizations, senators, deputies, representatives of national cultural centers, the diplomatic corps, poets, writers, scientists, youth and the elderly.
Scientist from Azerbaijan, laureate of Babur International Prize Ramiz Asker, the poet and teacher from Afghanistan Toshkin Bahoi, member of Uzbekistan Writers Union, talented poet and translator Nikolai Ilyin talked about the creative heritage of Navoi, which serves as a source of inspiration for writers, poets, scientists and researchers around the world.
At the event, the famous actor, honored journalist of Uzbekistan Temurmalik Yunusov read out Navoi’s ghazals. Students recited the statements of Turkic literary scholars about the great poet. People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Sherali Jurayev performed a song on Navoi’s ghazal.
Participants of the event laid flowers at the monument to the poet.
The ceremony was attended by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Khayriddin Sultanov.
